Ajijic in Mexico  In 2005, 3 Amigos

Bougainvilleas in Ajijic, Mexico

from North of the Border met and discussed some of the dilemmas facing future retirees in the USA.

The Baby Boomers, we noted, were for the most part ill prepared for what was to come. For the most part we were a generation of "Spenders vs Savers" and because of this, the likelihood was they would be forced to continue working or would dramatically have to change their lifestyle.

An alternative that is getting more exposure and becoming more acceptable is moving to a less expensive environment. The problems can be just as large however, as taxes and cost of living continue to rise all across the USA, so now the alternative is expanding, across the US borders. Costa Rica, Belize, Panama, Mexico, Central and South America are getting a lot of attention. However, there are issues here too ... language, culture, customs, climate, even the distance. But when we started looking at the Big Picture ... it made sense to investigate further.

One of our partners, Bill Elliott, has been coming to the Guadalajara area for over 6 years and has become enamored by the people, climate, and over all quality of life. When he joined Alan Bruns, a major Disney construction contracting firm President, and Mike Calhoun, an extremely successful Central Florida developer, the three flew to Mexico to create Lakeside Developments.

They quickly established a relationship with well-known Mexican attorney Luis Camarena Martinez, with generations of experience of real estate experience in the country. The best contractors and on-site workers were then brought onboard to ensure high-quality construction for the discriminating home buyer - and only the best materials are used when the homes are built.

The goal of Lakeside Developments is to discuss with our prospective clients, how does Mexico fit into your future plans and does it also fit your financial needs. This should not just be an emotional decisions made with lack of exposure to all the questions and answers. We want you to come to Ajijic and experience the people, the culture, and see for yourself if you're ready to make a decision of this magnitude. We feel as time progresses the investment in a home here will also grow in value, especially a home in a well defined, well developed and security conscious market with multiple amenities. So our goal is not just to sell you a house, it is to see if it's right for you and your family and then if the decision has to be changed down the road, the mistake won't cost you "the farm."

After all, there is no reason to cut corners - and our customers end up becoming our friends - and best sources of referrals - in Mexico. (You may also visit the Website for our furniture and interior design store, www.ajijicdesigns.com.)

Lake Chapala, seen from Tres Canadas - a luxury development in Ajijic, Mexico

We feel blessed to be a part of Tres Canadas, as one of their builders, and we ourselves are property owners and building here also for ourselves. If you feel you would like more information or would even like to see for yourself. The cost to get here, visit, eat and get a "good understanding" would be less than a long weekend at most expensive resorts. Our web page will give you a lot more data and linked pages to help in your understanding. We are in the process of establishing a relationship with a local firm and friend Judy King, who will be instrumental in meeting, greeting and giving knowledge to people coming to Ajijic. She also has a very informative website that can be of tremendous value.
